The new IHG PointBreak list is out with 150 new hotels listed available for booking between May 27 and July 31 for 5,000 points per night and is currently bookable. This is an exceptional deal that IHG releases every quarter and one I always look forward to in case there is a hotel on the list that works out with my travel plans.
This time around, as well as last quarter, the PointBreaks list is not so amazing, but there are some decent locations. The PointBreaks list should consist of InterContinental Hotels, Crowne Plaza, Candlewood, Staybridge and Holiday Inn properties, but InterContinental was completely left out. Which is a shame because there are some great InterContinental properties around the world.
The full list of 150 hotels can be viewed here and you can book through the links on that page starting today.
The list of hotels available in the US is abundant, but I mostly see the value in those locations if I’m going on a road trip. Asia has only three locations available on the PointBreaks list, one which is the Crowne Plaza in Bangkok, which I was able to book this morning with PointBreaks for my upcoming trip!
Here are some of the locations that appeal to me:
- CROWNE PLAZA BANGKOK LUMPINI PARK
- HOLIDAY INN SUVA
- HOLIDAY INN LAVAL – MONTREAL
- HOTEL INDIGO SAN JOSE FORUM COSTA RICA
- HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS MILAN – MALPENSA AIRPORT
- CROWNE PLAZA VILNIUS
- CROWNE PLAZA BUCHAREST
- HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS BARCELONA – MONTMELO
- HOLIDAY INN BURSA
- CROWNE PLAZA ANA UBE
- CROWNE PLAZA JOHANNESBURG – THE ROSEBANK
- HOLIDAY INN RESORT GOA
Never the less, the IHG PointBreaks can be a huge savings for anyone traveling this summer, so if there is a location that works with your travel plan, you should book it.
There are a few things to consider with PointBreaks. For one, 5,000 point per night PointBreaks availability is reserved on a first come first serve basis. The amount of PointBreaks nights that a hotel has is limited, so you should book as soon as possible.
Another thing to note is that you should be semi-certain of your travel plans. If you cancel your PointBreaks reservation or attempt to modify the reservation date, the PointBreaks rate will no longer be available. To get around that, people used to be able to book several nights under separate reservations so in case their travel plans change, they just cancel the night they no longer need. This is no longer the case as IHG changed its rules to prevent that from happening because once a room is canceled, that night is no longer available for anyone to book at a PointBreaks rate. Now the new policy is that guests are limited to two reservations per month, per hotel.
If you need some suggestions on how to top of your points, yesterday’s IHG PointBreaks preview post covers some promotions that IHG currently has going on that will earn you 2,000 points.
