park_hyatt_buenos_aires_hotel_review_ The day that I landed in Buenos Aires I couldn’t be any happier to finally make it to what people call the Paris of South America, however I do believe that Buenos Aires completely has its own personality. With a few minor setbacks, like my luggage not making it onto my flight, I was anxious to start exploring Buenos Aires with the Park Hyatt Palacio Duhau as my home base for the first two nights. The Park Hyatt Palacio Duhau is an elegant property in the center of Recoleta which was a great area to be in for getting familiar with Buenos Aires.

The hotel is a few blocks away from many cafes, restaurants and shopping in Recoleta, and only a short walk from beautiful parks and several weekend markets. During check in, our room wasn’t ready so we took a seat on the patio where we were offered welcome drinks from the bar. As we were sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful courtyard I noticed two LA hipster-types and as one got closer, I instantly recognized one of them to be Jared Leto!

Jared Leto and (the other guy) was Shannon Leto, Jared’s brother were in town because their band, 30 Seconds to Mars had a show in Buenos Aires. The best (or worst) part about sharing a hotel with them was that there were around 30 teenage girls waiting outside the hotel hoping to get a glimpse of the band. Every time someone would exit the building the girls outside would wail thinking it was them. This went on for the 2 nights I was there!

After finishing our drinks we were shown our room which I fell in love with. We were upgraded to a Park Suite in the newer complex of the Park Hyatt so we had a great view of the lush green courtyard and the palace (the original building) right in front of us. The suite was airy and clean, and also very refreshing to be in. The room itself was a large open space like a studio which was multi-purposed as a bedroom, work area and living room.

park_hyatt_buenos_aires_hotel_review_We had a comfortable couch to lounge on when we weren’t quite ready for bed or when one of us was using the desk to get some work done. Not that we needed it, but the only TV faced the bed so the lounge area really didn’t serve as an entertainment area.

The bedroom or sleeping area was divided from the living room area with a shelf and entertainment system. This made the bedroom and the living room area feel separate which was good as far as feeling organized and not cluttered. We had a king sized bed from which we also had a great view of the courtyard, but you could close the drapes for complete blackout with the use of a controller.

The bathroom was spacious as well and beautifully designed. It had a rain shower and a jet-bathtub, a separate toilet area and not to mention the obligatory bidet. park_hyatt_buenos_aires_hotel_review_

This bidet is much simpler than the ones I came across in Japan, but yet it still seems complicated to use!

One thing I wanted to mention was that the staff at the Park Hyatt Palacio in Buenos Aires were so kind and friendly. Like usual, I leave my laptop cords, etc. on the desk scattered around, but every time I would return to my room I would find each cord, whether for my lap top, cell phone, or head phones–neatly wound up in such a meticulous manner.  The housekeeping did an incredible job to say the least. I tried mimicking the style, but it just unravels immediately!

Breakfast at the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires offers an abundant buffet of fruit, pastries, yoghurt, cereals, smoked salmon, salamis and great coffee. I enjoyed it very much to say the least. Plus the breakfast area was beautiful. All the guests were for the most part very casual, even though the restaurant looked elegant, the environment was not snooty or uptight at all.

Consumed by my coffee the morning after I landed in Buenos Aires. MUST. HAVE. COFFEE.

park_hyatt_buenos_aires_hotel_review_park_hyatt_buenos_aires_hotel_review_The restaurant which serves the buffet breakfast is the Gioia Restaurante & Terrazas which for dinner turns into a fabulous Italian restaurant. There are three restaurants at the Park Hyatt in total: Gioia Restaurante & Terrazas as I just mentioned, the Duhau Restaurante and the Los Salones del Piano Nobile. In addition to the restaurant, there is the The Oak Bar and La Vinoteca for wine and cocktails.

The History of the Park Hyatt Palacio Duhau

One thing that appealed to me about staying at the Park Hyatt Palacio Duhau in particular was the history behind the property. It’s actually a fairly new Hyatt property, which had opened in 2006. The main original building was a tudor style mansion which belonged to a railway executive in the 1880s, Alejandro Hume. He had it designed and built by a well known architect and then in the early 1900s he sold it to the Duhau family which is where the property got its name from. The Duhau family actually constructed the palace right next to the original tudor home with beautiful marble floors and 23 rooms. This building was the location of the first location in Buenos Aires to host an art gallery!

  1. Buenos Aires is definitely on our bucket list, and this seems like a great place to stay. Will bookmark for the future 🙂

    1. The neighborhood is a great one to be in! It’s an old part of the city with a lot of rich history.

  2. The problem with these great hotels is that you get really spoiled! It is so hard to settle with normal accommodation after living in luxury like this. But sometimes you have too acept less in order to travel more.

    1. These types of hotels do spoil the average traveler especially when you’re traveling for so long and most of your accommodations are less than glamorous! That’s why within all of my hotel booking articles I emphasize how great it is to book your stays through hotel points, it’s totally okay to treat yourself in a beautiful accommodation like this one when the opportunity is there! 🙂

  3. Haha you and I would get along…coffee is a non-negotiable part of my daily life as well! This hotel looks divine!

  4. The hotel certainly has a touch of european flair about it. Looks beautiful! If you hadn’t mentioned where it was I wouldnt have guessed where it was.

  5. Hello, Buenos Aires. Oh this looks like a hotel I would love to frequent. Thanks for the info as we are traveling to Argentina in the spring and I may choose to stay here. Question for you, did they know you were travel bloggers when they gave you the room upgrade? Great photos.

  6. It is a great spot for sure, made for a great two nights! We received the upgrade because we have Hyatt Diamond status. With Diamond Status you get the lowest suite upgrade if its available at check-in

  7. I like hotel reviews, and I liked your review as well 🙂
I would love to stay in a hotel like that. It looks cozy and luxurious too!

  8. Looks like a great hotel! I would love that breakfast buffet!
