In May 2022, Ary and I set off to Greece for our honeymoon! Thanks to Marriott points we earned through the Marriott Bonvoy credit card signup bonus and hosting our wedding at a Marriott property, we stayed at the Semiramis Hotel—a truly “groovy” spot with vibrant Barbie-like vibes throughout, located in the Kifisia neighborhood.
One thing to note about the Semiramis Marriott is its location. It’s not in the heart of the tourist areas but in the affluent, residential Kifisia. We recommend having a car or planning for taxis to easily explore Athens’ main attractions.
That said, it’s a fantastic Marriott property, perfect for exploring a different side of town. After spending two weeks island hopping in the Cyclades, it was the perfect spot to relax. Plus, since we booked with points through our Bonvoy membership, we were lucky to be upgraded from a standard room to a Penthouse Suite all for a mere 45,000 points per night!
The “Barbie” Semiramis Penthouse, Penthouse Suite
When we walked into our penthouse suite, we were absolutely floored. The space was divided into separate rooms with a private bedroom, a cozy living room area, and a wrap-around balcony. The panoramic windows filled the suite with natural light, making it feel even more spacious. Instead of typical room numbers, each room had its own unique symbol, which added to the hotel’s quirky, “groovy” charm. As a special touch, an electronic marquee greeted us at the entrance, hinting that something extraordinary awaited us inside.
The design of the suite was a standout, even for a luxury brand. It blended modern aesthetics with comfort, and when I say it had Barbie vibes, I’m not exaggerating. Think hot pink and orange acrylic accents, a bright pink couch, and neon green walls. I kept calling it the “Barbie Suite,” though that’s not the official name—just how it felt to me!
