Playa Balandra – Must-Visit Beach

Playa Balandra is the highlight of any trip to La Paz. Known for its shallow, crystal-clear waters and iconic mushroom-shaped rock, Balandra is perfect for swimming, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. The beach is surrounded by rugged hills and desert landscapes, making it an excellent spot for hiking and exploring

Tips for Enjoying Playa Balandra:

  1. Arrive Early to Secure a Spot: Playa Balandra is a popular destination, especially on weekends and holidays. Arriving early in the morning ensures you get a good spot to set up your umbrella and enjoy the beach before it gets crowded.
  2. Bring Your Own Gear: While you can rent equipment like kayaks and paddleboards at some nearby spots, it’s often more convenient and cost-effective to bring your own gear. Don’t forget essentials like snorkeling masks, fins, and beach towels.
  3. Respect the Environment: Playa Balandra is a protected natural area. Make sure to follow all local guidelines, avoid disturbing wildlife, and take all your trash with you. Use designated trash bins and be mindful of the delicate ecosystem.
  4. Check the Tide Schedule: The water levels at Playa Balandra can vary significantly with the tide. Check the tide schedule before your visit to ensure you can access all the areas you want to explore, especially the famous Mushroom Rock.
  5. Wear Sun Protection: There is no shade and the sun in Baja California can be intense, so be sure to wear sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-protective clothing. Consider bringing a beach umbrella or shade tent for additional protection. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
