Mexico is a vibrant country from its geography, its, beaches, food, language, history and architecture. It’s no wonder that Mérida, Mexico in the Yucatán is gaining popularity for backpackers in pursuit of destinations still somewhat off the beaten path. Mérida is a colorful city with almost every building painted with your favorite Pantone … ok, maybe not really, but name a color and your sure to find one you wouldn’t mind calling home.
So where can you get the best view of the colorful houses of Mérida? While you’ll find colorful homes all over Mérida, you’d want to start around Centro de Merida’s Santa Ana neighborhood so you can dip in and out of shops, restaurants, and bars like Mercado 60 or La Negrita.
Alright, are you ready for a colorful gallery filled with photos of beautiful doors and dreamy buildings?

Ready to visit Mérida?
All you need to do to adventure around the colorful neighbors is to step outside. Grab a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and insect repellent so you can walk around carefree while enjoying the architecture. It gets really hot here during the day and combined with the humidity, it’s the perfect combination for bug bites and sunburn both of which you want to avoid.
In case you’re wondering, colorful homes is not the only thing Mérida has to offer. Just outside the city, there are haciendas to explore, refreshing cenotes, conservation parks (did somebody say flamingos?), beautiful beaches and ancient Mayan archeological areas. If you’re planning a trip to Mexico, while Cancun might be awesome and all … definitely put Mérida on your list! You won’t regret it.
